Inspirational words of wisdom...

Yesterday, Carolle and I enjoyed our visit to Strada Cycles opening day.

I want to thank Joey-Lee and Jason for inviting us at the new location situated at 595 Broughton Street. Coal Harbour is beautiful and the perfect setting to have their new store. Location is important and famous Stanley Park is a stones throw away. It's so great to see their progression from the low-key Pender St location to the present new Coal Harbour location. I want to steer your attention to the two positive quotes on the walls at Strada Cycles (above and below).

Winning at home!

BMC Racing Team just keeps on winning...

Thor Hushovd puts the hammer down, his sixth win this season, and BMC's eighth in the past 19 days - to win stage 2 of the Arctic Race of Norway. He seems to be riding like the Thor of old, "Today was important, not just for the stage, but for the GC. So to get another victory makes for good satisfaction."

Classy victory!

If you don't know who Lachlan Morton is...

Well, he's the 21-year old Australian up and coming star for Garmin-Sharp who won stage 3 of the Tour of Utah. He conquered the steep climb going solo for 30km across Mount Nebo then soloed to victory. Classy. Classier still is that he currently wears the leader jersey!

They say Lachlan Morton is more laid back than Ryder Hesjedal.

Dutch way of cycling life.

Hans sent me this engaging and informative video, 'Why do so many Dutch people cycle?'

I was amazed to see so many folks ride bikes in Amsterdam. Yes, I was there in the eighties and it was the first time I saw the unique Dutch model of cycling. No lycra. Everyone rides from the young to the very old. I saw a fit senior riding without a helmet during winter handily over the cobblestones. I can only wish that Canada can move towards the Dutch model of cycling heaven. Easier said than done. At least, we here in Vancouver has a growing bike culture, a good network of bike paths and due to our mild winters (you just have to embrace the rain) one can ride year round. Bicycling growth has been astronomical since moving here in the late eighties from Alberta. Improved infrastructure and ridership tips the scale on the road where cars and bikes co-exist... nowhere close like bike-friendly Holland!

15 days until the Vuelta...

Juan Jose Cobo,
his glory was winning the 2011 Vuelta.
