Friday File: Adieu IAM Cycling, La Vie Claire 80's Chic & Back in Black Sale

As a fan of the now defunct IAM Cycling team, I was glad to post the superb doc, Keep Fighting on last week's Friday File. Larry Warbasse was an American rider with the Swiss team and his final thoughts via his blog are a pretty poignant summary of the team's ethos, Everything good must end. Article here.










One of the stand out cycling jerseys ever, has to be the 80's chic, La Vie Claire. Based on Dutch artist, Piet Mondrian's Composition A painting, it was a design that befitted the powerhouse French team.


"The first idea was an all-black strip like the New Zealand rugby union team. We discarded it because we'd have baked under the hot sun of the Tour de France. Then she came up with the idea of a jersey like a Mondrian picture, bright colours like yellow and red in a geometric pattern of differently sized rectangles. This was something of a revolution, which was just what we wanted. It was a symbol of our intention to stand out from the other teams and to brighten up the peloton."

I still have a La Vie Claire jersey like the one Hinault is wearing. It's a little tight these days! It was the first "pro style" jersey I bought when I started cycling in 1986. Thank you for bringing back old memories. Still riding my "new" 1988 Marinoni Special.
